Tactical maritime gear, including marine inflatable attachments, are a wide range of tactical and battlefield products that are adapted to missions at sea. The idea behind them is not only to be protected from the enemy but from the water itself, which is often even more dangerous. There are three aspects that any type of maritime gear needs to have:
  1. Light and maneuverable
  2. Water-resistant or waterproof
  3. Buoyant or inflatable
Because some of the gear can’t ever be buoyant due to the nature of the product, an operator working at sea will need to compensate with specialized equipment that will increase the overall flotation of the gear. The best-case scenario is that in the case of falling overboard you can deploy your gear and stay afloat without any effort on your part. This allows for an organized rescue with enough time for your companions to deal with the primary issue before providing you aid. Those in the market to buy marine inflatable gear will also need to look for items for sale that can be deployed in an instant and that are otherwise easy to carry and have a low profile when not in combat. While an inflated jacket doesn’t need to provide mobility, it needs to be as unobtrusive as possible while it is not activated. This will leave a marine, or any other maritime operator, as effective at sea as they would be with the same gear on solid ground.

Aquatic and Marine Attachments and Gear

While the term marine is often used to speak specifically about the personnel and gear in the US Navy forces, the general meaning is any item or person operating at sea. This is why marine gear is not only for the navy marines, but any soldier or specialist working off the coast, including the Army and Coast Guard.  Those who need this type of gear will need to solve several problems that come with working without a solid surface beneath you. Not only is there a question of the ground always moving and swaying, but the danger from the elements is significantly greater at sea. Primarily, there is the question of storms and winds that have a tendency to grab any type of gear that is flapping about. While the weight of the gear here can help you keep your balance, it might become deadly if you lose it at some point. Further, there is the question of salt in the air. All of the gear you use needs to be resistant to salt depositing on it and can’t fail if damp or wet. Not to mention that you will always need to have a way to keep yourself dry and comfortable even when there are waters from above and below. Finally, there is the question of the battlefield effectiveness of the gear. Any solution you make for your gear to become buoyant, lighter, or a closer fit can’t compromise with its primary purpose. A bullet at sea is just as effective as it is on land, and your body armor vest and plate carrier need to be ready for that as well. The only objective benefit of operating at sea is that the danger from explosives is generally diminished.

Low Profile

The main issue with marine inflatable gear is that it is, by default, full of air. This air has no benefit until you are in the water and can be difficult to work around otherwise. This is why your gear needs to be virtually unnoticeable when deflated. Usually, the best option will be using an attachment for the vest that is completely flat and only as a small pressurized canister or blowpipe that you can use to inflate it.  Using a canister is easier, but is not often recommended for military engagements and firefights. Not only is the canister heavy, but it is also under a lot of pressure and can create an effect akin to a frag grenade when hit. For rescue missions and private operations, a pressurized canister might be a better option because it can be used to deploy the inflatable vests in seconds without the operator needing to do anything. And, unless you are already at your weight limit, it is not difficult to incorporate in your gear.
